In Mid-2025 we began talks with Andrew Hume from Curve Technology, with the aim of setting up a trial meshcore system incase of large scale communication failure, as we found out in Cyclone Gabrielle, when we lost all celltower communication and power outages across the wider Wairoa District , we currently have 2 repeater sites able to cover a 5km distance each, and we currently have5 communication receivers distributed around the village to give us coverage in most areas of the village. We are eternally grateful to Andrew for his persistence and tenacity in making this a viable option for us and securing funding for the trial which has been a complete success
